Better bottles for a better planet: And we did it together

At KOALA ECO, we’re always seeking ways of reducing our impact on the planet. Our entire range of products are plant-based, made with Australian essential oils, biodegradable and grey water safe but there was still one thing that was bugging us; the plastic bottles. Even though our packaging plastic is 100 per cent recyclable, it has been one of the aspects we’ve been trying for a while to resolve. Until now.

We’re so proud to announce that all of our products now come in 100 per cent post-consumer-recycled bottles. In other words, they’re bottles that are recycled from bottles. For those who like to dive into the details, they’re known as rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate), this process recycles original PET containers into β€˜new’ bottles. Best of all, these new bottles have a lower carbon footprint than virgin (or new) PET.

They’re the same size, strength, shape and transparency as our original bottles, and they can still be recycled at the end of their life cycle. And best of all, what it means for us is we’re no longer responsible for introducing any new plastic into the world.

But why not refillable pouches?

This is a question we get asked a lot, and for great reason. Pouches contain non-recyclable waterproof seals which will end up in landfill. Our spray triggers and pumps, while not rPET, can be recycled or used again with our refill bottles which are recyclable, and you can carry on using them with every product refill.Β

We did it thanks to you!Β

Our bottle breakthrough came after a year’s lobbying our plastics company to trial the manufacture on its existing equipment. What’s more you - our loyal customers - helped us by allowing us to achieve eligibility through sales volume. So, thank you!
