Blue Mind: Cody Simpson's Deep Connection to Nature

Blue Mind: Cody Simpson's Deep Connection to Nature

Cody Simpson, a renowned singer, songwriter, and competitive swimmer, has always connected with nature. Known for his musical talents and athletic achievements, Cody finds peace and inspiration in the natural world. His love for the ocean and surfing has provided him with a sanctuary from the fast-paced demands of his career. In this exclusive "Hour in Nature" interview, Cody shares his personal experiences and insights on nature's impact on his life.

What’s your favorite thing to do in nature?

I enjoy surfing, being out in the water experiencing that 'blue mind' state and finding escape from entrapping’s and happenings of everyday society. Being in the water brings me peace and energy.

Describe your connection to nature: what positives does it bring to your life?

The constant over-stimulation of the world these days can be at times too much to bear, time in nature always for relief and deliverance from that stress and re-connection to one's self and to the world around them.

Many of us are time-poor and might not get out into nature as much as we’d like. Any suggestions for a quick nature-based pick-me-up?

Something sensory, experiential…? Something as simple as a quick on the grass or on the sand with bare feet can be of huge benefit to the nervous system and to your mind. I love it.

Is there a ritual or custom you have to bring nature into your home?

Lots of plants! And growing herbs in the backyard. It's fun to care for and watch things grow. It's a very simple but meaningful practice.

What is your favourite natural scent, and why?

Lavender has always been one of my favourites.

Can you describe an experience when you’ve been made to feel fully in awe—and perhaps even uncomfortably—aware of the power of nature?

A big wipe-out attempting a surf at Waimea Bay in Oahu, the ocean can be very humbling at times and she'll be quick to remind she's in charge! It's a stark contrast from man's usual belief that we are the ones in charge.

Is there a sound in nature that you believe everyone should hear at least once in their lifetime?

Whale calls underwater!
